Matilda Mk IIIa* Land Battleship

The Matilda Mk. IIIa* is the standard 'Landship' class tank in the Coalition. Weighing in at nearly 275 tons the Mk IIIa* is a redesign on the classic Matilda Mk II Land Battleship used in the Saurian Kingdom and Serian Leagues prior to the IDI Incursion. Carrying a crew of 6, the tank is largely automated with an AI core backing up the crewmembers with tactical support and weapons, leaving the living crew more for operational decisions rather than actually aiming the weapons manually.

A true titan of engineering, the Mk IIIa* was designed to meet the needs of the Coalition in response to the growing threat ofenemy super heavies and the need for a viable 'infantry tank' to operate in cities and to break through enemy lines. Heavy armored and extremely well armed, the Mk IIIa* is behemothine in proportions and just as formidible as the mythological creature. While relatively slow compared to Hover tanks and the lighter Medium tanks produced by the Therion minarchy, the Matilda Mk IIIa* is a definitive niche tank.

While not suited for true manuever warfare, the Mk IIIa* is a formidible opponent to face in any close quarters or mid-range battle where you are forced to close on it. Mounting Particle Lances, Medium and light Railguns, and computer controlled Gatling Lasers for anti-infantry and air defense the Matilda Mk IIIa* is incredibly tough to kill even when heavily out numbered, a tank worthy of the name as the Matilda Mk II was noted to be able to take on whole columns of enemy tanks outnumbered 20 to 1 and still manage to claw it's way out of the fire damaged... but on top.
